Today there may not be any NBA game that actually counts, but it is a huge day in the NBA. First of all, the greatest player in the history of the game turned 50 today, yet because of the excessive attention all week of MJ, many people seem to disrespect MJ today. People seem to forget that MJ is a legend not only because of what he did on the court, but the branding he did off the court and the image that he created. This guy made Jordan shoes and baggie shorts cool and I know if it wasn't for him, there is a good chance I would not have the same passion today that I have for basketball. I am pretty sure most people in my generation played basketball in their driveway acting as if there was 10 seconds left in the NBA Finals and they are MJ going for a last second buzzer beater. That was for sure me. I can tell you this much, all of this LeBron VS MJ comparison is ridiculous. They are two completely different players in two different time periods. They both deserve respect, but with that should not come disrespect.
As far as the all-star game today, it may be one of the most awkward events in basketball. Suddenly, KG and Joakim Noah are sitting next to each other and high fiving each other after they have constantly bashed each other through the media the past few years. Or how about guys like Noah and Tyson Chandler, two guys that absolutely deserve to be in the NBA all star game due to their defense, however, they suddenly are expected to NOT play defense in an all star game. Finally, Greg Popovich, really?!? This guy coaching the West All Stars may be the most awkward thing of all. He doesn't like playing his all-stars in regular season games that are huge to make sure that they are rested. That means you can really expect Parker and Duncan to see about 5-10 minutes of playing time tonight. But congrats to Kobe Bryant for another NBA all-star appearance, he has been in these for a long, long time now and has deserved all of his appearances. However, tonight I say Durant will win the all-star game MVP and the West will come out on top.
